The GPT Group’s flexible workplace business Space&Co. has confirmed its plans to expand its venue at 580 George Street in response to ongoing strong demand at the site.
The Space&Co. at the recently refurbished 580 George Street will be expanded from 300sqm to 700sqm, with the new space being created by one of the world’s leading designers of coworking spaces, the architectural firm BVN.
The expanded 580 George venue will accommodate an additional 50 plus members and include dedicated project and team rooms and a variety of collaborative working areas.
GPT’s Head of Office & Logistics Matthew Faddy said the venue had benefitted from being in Sydney CBD’s thriving Midtown area, which has emerged as a hub for international technology and creative firms.
“580 George Street includes the best amenities and is arguably the most convenient location for any coworking space in Sydney,” said Mr Faddy.
“The emergence of a thriving entertainment, food and small bar scene in the area surrounding 580 George Street has made the location even more appealing for professionals wanting to base themselves in more vibrant parts of the CBD.”
“Aside from the appeal of its close proximity to Town Hall Station, Space&Co. at 580 George Street has seen strong demand from professionals wanting to be located in Sydney’s Midtown area,” said Mr Faddy.
Mr Faddy said the 580 George Street venue had seen strong demand from independent professionals and small business operators but also existing GPT tenants looking for temporary flexible workspace. He said the recent $25 million refurbishment to 580 George Street’s lobby and retail podium had driven interest in the Space&Co. venue.
Guests at the 580 George Street Space&Co. will have access to the building’s new End of Trip facilities which include bicycle storage, showers, lockers and a complimentary towel service. The expanded venue is due to open in early 2018.
The announcement of the expansion of the 580 George Street venue follows the opening of the expanded Space&Co. venue at Melbourne Central Tower, also designed by BVN.
The enlarged Space&Co. at Melbourne Central Tower can accommodate 180 members and includes bespoke workstations, meeting rooms, glass house boardroom, fully equipped kitchen with cooking facilities, quiet areas and library which includes a fireplace.
Space&Co. expanded another of its venues at 530 Collins Street Melbourne late last year and is also exploring options to expand the venue further in early 2018.
